Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 14, 2005): Director of Gender Affairs Mrs Ingrid Charles Gumbs says her ministry is poised for the Launch of the Democratic Institute later today.
Mrs. Gumbs said that the response to the effort to recruit women for the institute has been overwhelming, dispelling the notion that women of the Federation are not interested in politics.

The institute is geared at transforming St. Kitts and Nevis political culture  by way of getting more women fully involved in the democratic process at the highest level.

Director Gumbs explained however that the institute is open to both sexes and that men have also signed up.

She said the fact that the women who applied are highly intelligent and that this augurs well for the future and is very encouraging. The launch takes at the East Basseterre Community Centre at 6:30p.m.
