BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CONDUCTING oneself in a good manner is being encouraged with the initiation of an eco-friendly incentive to students of the Tyrell Williams Primary School who showcase their ability to possess and express good attitudes during attendance at school.

At the commencement of the present school year (Sept. 2012 - July 2013), the Tyrell Williams Primary School partnered with Sky Safari to offer two well deserving students a ride on their Zip Line once every quarterly for their academic efforts but, more importantly, for good behaviour.

Teachers at this institution realised that the vast majority of students have great academic potential. However, sometimes some of them underperform, not because they are not capable but due to indiscipline and unsavory behaviour which, undoubtedly, have a negative impact on their performance.

Head Teacher Terrence Edwards decided to approach Venitia Williams, Manager of Sky Safari, which is located in the rainforests at Wingfield, Old Road, and discussed the idea of offering a trip on their zip line as an incentive for good behaviour showcased by students and for positive attitudes in the classroom.

She expressed her willingness to assist the school in its quest to motivate the students to practice and model exemplary behaviour.

So far, six students have had the great pleasure of experiencing this most exhilarating sky safari ride.

Sky Safari Tours is a highly advanced, scenic zip line tour through the lush, beautiful rainforest. It flies over the Wing Field River through the famous ‘Valley of the Giants’, home of some of the largest trees on the Island. This course consists of one trainer line that is 140 feet long, followed by four larger zip line lengths from 500 feet to 1 350 feet.

During morning assembly, the students who were rewarded share their wonderful excursion experience with their school mates. The hope is that this will encourage and motivate other students to engage in the same wholesome behavioural habits.

Behaviour does not change overnight, as it usually takes years to crystallize. Good behaviour is a way of life that must be adapted.

Edwards expressed: “It is our hope that the students of the Tyrell Williams Primary School will treat each other as family and display exceptionally good behaviour inside and outside of the school.”
