Autopsy performed on Colin Merchant’s body
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have indicated that a breakthrough was made in the shooting death of Antonio ‘Dollar’ Hutton with the recent arrest and charge of a male adult from Bath Village.
According to a police press release, “Dustin Lapsey of Bath Village was formally arrested and charged for the murder of Tonio Hutton which was allegedly committed on30/6/2013.”
Hutton, according to information reaching SKNVibes, was originally from Cotton Ground, Nevis but was residing in Bath Village at the time of his demise.
Information also indicated that sometime around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2013, while Hutton was on the verandah of his home, a gunman approached and opened fire upon him. He reportedly ran into the house in a bid to escape the onslaught but the adamant gunman gave chase, caught up with him in his bedroom and shot him to death.
Since then, Deputy Premier in the Nevis Island Administration the Hon. Mark Brantley expressed condolences to Hutton’s relatives and made a call for the people of Nevis to end the silence and make their voices heard in the fight against crime.
“My heart goes out to the family of young Tonio Hutton and to the wider Nevisian community at home and abroad. How many more of us will have to suffer before WE, as a proud Nevisian community, decide that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! The Police are making every effort but they need the assistance of the general public. If we wish to see an end to this madness, then let us stop enabling it with our silence (sic) and our apathy!”
Tonio ‘Dollar’ Hutton’s death had marked the 18th homicide committed in the Federation for the year and the eight on Nevis.
Meanwhile, police have reported that Dr. Stephen Jones on Monday (Jul. 8) had performed an autopsy on the body of Colin Merchant and concluded that death was due to a stab wound to the chest, which resulted in haemorrhage and shock.
The 19-year-old, who hailed from Nevis but was residing in Upper Monkey Hill, St. Peter’s from an early age, was stabbed to death sometime after 3:00 a.m. in the vicinity of Vibes Beach Bar on the Frigate Bay Strip.
The police have since indicated that they are “actively searching for a person of interest”.
Merchant’s death has taken to 19 the number of homicides committed in the Federation for this year.
