SKELEC Conducts Training in Health & Safety

    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, July 11th 2013 - The Cayman Islands based 'The Training and Safety Tutor' (TT&ST) carried out Occupational Health and Safety Training of nineteen (19) SKELEC employees drawn from its various departments. The training sessions took place during the period July 3rd-5th at the SKELEC Needsmust Power Generation Conference Room. 

     

    This training provided the first step towards Occupational Health and Safety (OCSA) certification. The aim of the training was to raise the level of safety at the work place and to introduce proper health and safety policies while managing hazards on the job.

     

    The facilitators, Mr. Edris Ocho and Mr. Julius Jacky lectured participants on the following: 

     

    • Hazards and Risk Assessments Training for Tools, Equipment and Machinery;
    • Working at Heights and Lifting;
    • Operational Procedures in the work place, Incident Investigation & Procedures and Certification Examinations.

    At the end of the training participants were required to take a competency test. 

     

    All participants were successful and were presented with Certificates in 'Hazards and Risks' and 'Rigging and Lifting'. 

     

    This training is an addition to the training in First Aid and Safety previously undertaken at which seventy (70) persons received certification.
