BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONCE again, the owner of a small business in Needsmust Estate awoke to find her snackette broken into and a number of items missing.
Denise DeFreitas-Barret, owner of the White Castle Snackette in Needsmust Estate, within the vicinity of the West Basseterre Bypass Road, told this media house that she had secured the container-structured entity last evening before leaving for her home.
However, on arrival at the establishment shortly after 6:00 this morning (Jul. 11), she found the front door open and its lock damaged.
Checking on other parts of the establishment, DeFreitas-Barret found that the bandits had attempted to enter the snackette through the western window, but they were deterred by the sturdy burglar bars.
On entering the snackette, she had observed the door of the refrigerator was wide open but “I cannot say how many food items were removed from there”.
She said the entire snackette was ransacked and the bandits had emptied all the jars which contained a variety of sweets and assorted snacks.
“They also stole a Digicel Top-up Phone, an iPod, a large quantity of gadgets for mobile phones, an unknown amount of cash from the sale of Top-ups and all the coins that I had in the snackette,” DeFreitas-Barret said.
The small business owner said this was not the first time her snackette was targeted by bandits.
“Five times it was broken into in about four years. Four times when it was located opposite its current location and today,” she explained.
The incident was reported at the Basseterre Police Station and police are currently investigating.
