BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE body of 19-year-old Colin Merchant was laid to rest yesterday afternoon (Jul. 11) in the churchyard of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church following a Home-Going Service there.

The bearers of the casket were members of the St. Peter’s Football Club including Coach Orville ‘Sailor’ Thompson.

Merchant was buried with his number 20 St. Peter’s Football jersey atop his white casket.

SKNVibes, following the solemn event, spoke with the President of the St. Kitts Nevis Football Association, Anthony Johnson, who, on behalf of his Organisation, conveyed condolences to the bereaved parents and family members of Merchant.

“On behalf of the SKNFA I would like to express my condolences to the family of Colin Merchant who met an untimely death last weekend.”

He went on to say, “It is extremely sad for all of us. He was a very young and upcoming promising footballer. And so it is it an occasion to reflect upon his loss at this point in time for the community of St. Peter’s and the St. Peter’s Football Club.”

Johnson expressed the hope that the athletic talent displayed by Merchant would serve as an “inspiration for the community and the Federation as a whole”.

Merchant was stabbed to death sometime after 3:00 a.m. on Sunday (Jul. 7) in the vicinity of Vibes Beach Bar on the Frigate Bay Strip.
