Church called to spiritual warfare to deal with current crisis

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PEOPLE from different Christian denominations and political persuasions from across the island were given a wake-up call yesterday (Jul. 15) at the Rally for Peace, Justice and Mercy organised by the Evangelical Association (EA), the Christian Council and other non-governmental organisations.

The event was held on the grounds of the St. George’s Anglican Church, where clergymen delivered the Word of the Lord through the reading of scripture and words of exhortation.

An engaging season of praise and worship, preceded only by a prayer and led by the praise and worship team from the Antioch Baptist Church, got the hundreds gathered in an attitude of thanksgiving.

President of the EA Bishop Ron Collins raised a few eyebrows and turned a few heads with his candid declaration concerning the political crisis that the Federation currently faces and the remedy which must be employed to correct it.

“We have talked the talk, we have pleaded the plea, we have prayed the prayer and it has all been ignored. And so we are at a time because of actions, deliberate actions…We believe this is a serious time for reflection, but today I celebrate because we stand together; different congregations, different political parties, different families, but we are one people under God!

“We are at a time where we are fed up with the political divisiveness, we are fedup with the cursing on the platforms, we are fed up of the victimisation and unrighteousness. The church must break its silence!”

Bishop Collins said it is time for the church to actively engage in spiritual warfare and to snatch back the Federation from the hands of the enemy and declare that peace, justice and mercy reign over the land.

He reminded that according to Ephesians 6:12, our fight is not one against the physical but against spiritual wickedness in high places and against the rulers of the darkness of this world.

“Spiritual warfare is a necessity right now! So, women, don’t apologise for praying. We call on people to use common sense but we call on the authorities to be sensible. We call on the police to be sensitive…because at the end we are all God’s people...

“God loves people more than policies. God loves people more than programmes. God loves people more than the Constitution. Amen! God loves people more than anything! Too long we have played with nastiness in this country. We have seen obeah introduced into our political system…You think it is by accident our young men are taking up guns? We have introduced and allowed evil to take permanent residence in St. Kitts. It’s time to break them!
“I want to implore the church today to fight. Fight for the Word of God to remain alive in our homes, in our Sunday schools, in our schools, in our business places and throughout the communities. We got to fight because the devil ain’t goin’ hand it back just (like that). No amount of legislation in Parliament could make the devil pass back St. Kitts just (like that)…”

Stirring words were also sent forth by Pastor Lincoln Connor of the Antioch Baptist Church, who admonished the gathering to turn from their insensitivity to God and to adopt the habit of identifying wrong as being wrong.
