BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE general public has been invited to witness the stage-play ‘The Cry’, the latest Moses Byron Production, which is expected to focus on the social implications of crime on the family and the community at large.

The stage play, jointly organized by the Youth Exploring Talent Theatre (YETT) and Ambassadors for Peace and Empowerment, will be held at the Basseterre High School on Friday, December 19 and would portray mournful mothers recounting heartbreaking stories about the loss of their children as a result of crime.

Byron, playwright and Director of YETT, explained that the play, appropriately entitled ‘The Cry’, serves to raise the awareness of the general public in relation to the many negative effects crime has on the society, paying special attention to its effects on the family.

“It is very timely because of the unrest that we are having in relation to violent crimes which has caused widespread fear in the hearts of many civilians. We have just witnessed our 22nd murder for the year and we still have three more weeks to go. ~~Adz:Right~~

This is a good time to address the issue in dramatic form so that many persons can be exposed to the reality of life. Many persons talk about the issue because it is obviously affecting them but this is a small start to deal with it. People must realize how this cancer is slowly eating away the fabric of our society.

“We are hoping that by viewing the stage presentation, young people would realize how parents actually feel when they have to experience pain, sorrow and mixed emotions after the loss of family members to crime, and the spinoff effects it has on the family. It should encourage young people to think wisely about the consequences of their actions and be more careful, tolerant and responsible in order to spare their own lives and avoid causing trauma to the family.”

Byron noted that the stage play is expected to be a “highly emotional experience” and added that the presentations would be of a very high standard. He urged everyone to “come out and witness real drama that can change your life.”

The play begins at 7:30 pm and has an admission fee of EC$10.
