Basseterre, St.Kitts (July 19th 2013) -- Former Leader of the People’s Action Movement Lindsay Grant has sent out a clarion call to the nation and the electorate to Vote their Conscience. This call was made at the party’s Public Meeting at the Glen, St.Peter’s on Thursday evening. The popular PAM representative for Constituency#4 told a large crowd, “ At this time in our country’s history and what the country has been through and is going through today I am calling on you and every voter in this country to , for one day on election day, forget the party politics and Vote your Conscience.”
“We must vote with our conscience. As difficult it is not to vote based on tradition or who you mother and grandmother vote for, we must vote for what is right and just; not only for ourselves but for the common good of the country. 98% of us have a conscience and I believe once you Vote your Conscience we will get the UNITY government we deserve” Grant stated.
After the meeting Grant was asked to go into more details on his call to Vote your Conscience he responded “We must not allow the political rhetoric to influence our beliefs and our principles. For some of us the high cost of living influences our vote, the high electricity bills influences our vote, some of us are influenced by freed food and music others influenced by who could make the most noise or talk the most nonsense.
But I think when we vote our conscience our vote is a good vote and I think this election will be not only a UNITY election but it will be a CONSCIENCE election and a CONSCIENCE Vote this election is a Vote for UNITY. As no one who has a conscience in my opinion , will vote against UNITY. No one with a conscience could say togetherness, UNITY is not the way to go. No one with a conscience could say UNITY is not what the country needs right now. No one with a conscience could say that everybody working together for better is not good for this country. That’s why I say a CONSCIENCE VOTE is a UNITY Vote and this election will be a CONSCIENCE Election.”
Grant also lamented the failure of the Registration Officer from his area to hear ANY of his scores of objections to persons who have registered in the constituency but has never ever lived there . He said that in the last month alone he has 27 objections to be filed with the registration officer and for the year thus far he has objected to many others and have yet to be given a hearing.
Grant indicated that he is experiencing much frustrations with the Registration Officer and his failure to hear objections and sees it as a clear plot to pad the constituency with voters to precipitate a repeat of the last two elections where he lost by 54 and 29 votes respectively and over a hundred of his objections to illegally registered voters were unheard and remains so up to this day.
“It’;s frustrating but I continue to work vigilantly and to meet all my constituents 3 and 4 times if possible or necessary to assure them of my committment now and after I am elected. So although I am being consistently frustrated by the Objection Officer it motivates me to work 3 times as hard to ensure Constituency#4 finally gets a REAL representative and a representative they truly deserve,” Grant declared.
All the polls conducted by all the parties and other private groups have all indicated that Grant is the overwhelming favourite to win in Constituency#4.
