Dr. Drew...most likely Labour Candidate for No. 8

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Terrance Michael Drew

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the inevitability of General Elections and Hon. Sam Condor’s and Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris’ crossing of the floor, as well as Cedric Liburd bowing out of the candidacy race, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) has to replace these two former government insiders and the former Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Eight respectively.

In almost all of the SKNLP’s recent political meetings and rallies, Dr. Vance Gilbert has been introduced to the platform as Dr. Harris’ replacement for Constituency Seven, but no one has been named to replace Condor.

However, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas have indicated that Attorney General Jason Hamilton, Konris Maynard and Osbert France, the grandson of National Hero the Rt. Excellent Sir Joseph Nathaniel France, are three possibilities in replacing Condor in St. Christopher Three.

And in St. Christopher Eight, two individuals have been deemed hopefuls. One is Dr. Terrance Drew and the other is an unnamed female.

Deputy Chairman of the SKNLP, the Hon. Nigel Carty has recently told SKNVibes that Dr. Drew has been confirmed as one of the political party’s hopefuls.

And over the past three to four weeks, he was the major topic of discussion amongst many residents in St. Peter’s as the SKNLP’s best choice for replacing Liburd.

Born to Ras Gerzel Pet Mills and the legendary Michael ‘Mic Stokes’ Heyliger, the 37-year-old Dr. Terrance Michael Drew, who is originally from Upper Monkey Hill in St. Peter’s Parish, started his educational journey at the then St. Peter’s Primary School.

He then moved on to Basseterre High School and later to the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College before returning to that secondary school, where he taught for a number of years.

Young Drew had a love for Science and, this love, coupled with that of working with people, produced within him a burning desire to enter the medical field.

His opportunity came in 1998 through the St. Kitts-Nevis Government when he received a scholarship grant from Cuba to pursue a degree in Medicine in that country.

Upon completion of his studies in Cuba, Dr. Drew returned to his homeland where he practised but was not satisfied in being just a General Practitioner.

Once again the love for Science came to the fore and he headed for the USA, where he attended and successfully graduated from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – Paul Foster School of Medicine as a specialist in Internal Medicine.

According to a family member, Dr. Drew graduated from the Paul Foster School of Medicine on Saturday, June 8, 2013 as a member of the American College of Medicine and American Medical Association.

The family member is also of the view that the father of one is a “people’s person who will most definitely bring fresh and excellent political ideas into the St. Peter’s Parish, in particular, and the Federation as a whole. He is a very good motivational speaker and a perfect role model to the younger generation in our community”.
