BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AT the close of the May 2013 Criminal Assizes last Thursday (July 18), Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) reported an increase of11 inmates.
According to the Prison Report, there are currently 341 persons residing at the Prison; an increase by nine since the closing of the January 2013 Criminal Assizes when the population stood at 330.
The Report stated that there are currently 339 males and two females at HMP. Forty-four males are located at the Prison Farm in Nevis; a five inmate decrease from the last Report which was delivered at the Basseterre High Court in April.
One male remains at the Cardin Home in Nevis.
One hundred and seventy-three males were convicted at the High Court; one more than at the last Report, while 55 were convicted at the Magistrate Court which realised one less than was reported at the last Assizes.
There are 56 males and one female awaiting trial at the Magistrate Court level; a 15-male increase from the last Report.
Thirty-eight males are awaiting trial at the High Court level, which reflects a decrease by seven, and six males are awaiting sentencing.
There is no detainee at the Prison but four males and one female reside there by Court Order. Among the males three are debtors and one is a prohibited immigrant.
A lone male remains condemned and awaiting his date of execution.
