BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THIRTEEN trainees at the Alpha and Omega Security Solutions (AOSS) on Saturday (Jul. 20) spent most of their time acceding to the beck and call of the elderly at the Cardin Home.
The trainees spent the day disposing trash, cleaning the grounds, serving food and beverages to the residents and even cutting the males’ hair.
Speaking with SKNVibes, owner and Managing Director of AOSS Shawn Wiggley explained that the students (what he deemed them as), three of whom are Nevisians, are currently training to become certified Security Officers in the Money Intensive Unit Training Course.
He further explained to this publication that the men were supposed to spend the day in the mountain for field exercise training, but there was a change in both training and location due to the climate change.
Wiggley stated that the decision was made to have the students perform community service in an effort to give something back to society, and so they spent the day "offering love and assistance to the elders".
With regards to the Training Course, Wiggley enunciated that it is a series of exercises done throughout the year and the field exercise would have been the first for 2013.
He said the exercises are done based on the level of training needed, adding that the Company also does remedial training periodically.
"Our aim is to keep them abreast with the current activities as it relates to security. I was a Sergeant Major in the military before establishing the Security Company and I want to move away from the watchman era and provide more of a military-like training for my Officers.
"I am seeking to have well-trained Security Officers that can better meet the need of our clients. I want to raise the level of Security Officers so that they would be up to par with other security forces around the world," Wiggley explained.
Alpha and Omega Security Solutions has been in operation for four years and provides efficiently trained officers who are capable and ready to meet their clients' needs.
The Security Officers are trained throughout the year as the company does its best to keep them "on the ball".
With a mission of being an effective, fair and efficient regulator of the private security industry, the company's vision is to have criminality reduced and standards raised, so that the public is safe and feels safer.
The Managing Director deemed the community service effort a success and stated that the students "seemed so happy to be serving the elders that they have asked to do it on a monthly basis".
He however indicated that so far the Managers are looking at making it a quarterly service to the community.
