Bridgetown, BARBADOS, July 23rd, 2013 -- The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) conducted a workshop on their Direct Assistance Grant Scheme on July 18, 2013 at Ocean Terrace Inn, St. Kitts.
The Direct Assistance Grant Scheme Workshop was brought to St. Kitts in partnership with Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs and Chamber of Industry & Commerce St. Kitts-Nevis and was attended by St. Kitts & Nevis firms and Business Support Organisations (BSOs).
The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Charleton Edwards, Board Member for Caribbean Export and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce & Consumer Affairs. A key note address was delivered on behalf of the Honourable Richard Skerritt, Minister of Tourism, International Transport, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs by Mr. Andrew Satney, Trade Policy Advisor.
More than 50 participants attended the workshop representing a wide cross-section of private sector firms. The attendance has been the largest to date and credit must be given to our partners who coordinated the event. The workshop sought to increase the schemes awareness and ultimately increase the number of applicants from St. Kitts & Nevis as well as the number of successful applications from Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
Training was delivered by Caribbean Export’s Senior Grant Advisor, Kirk Brown on how to prepare an application and the principles and best practices in writing proposals. The training provided aims to assist BSOs in facilitating firms to prepare applications for upcoming call for proposals.
The workshop also utilised the experience of grant beneficiaries under the 10th European Development Fund Direct Assistance Grant Scheme to share with participants the level of detail planning that goes into preparing applications. Additionally, participants were encouraged by Caribbean Export to share their grant funding experiences and draw on the assistance of past beneficiaries to assist them in writing successful applications.
The delivery of this workshop is part of Caribbean Exports overall objective to enhance the competitiveness among CARIFORUM’s private sector.
