BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A 12-member jury is expected to deliver a not guilty verdict in relation to one of two murder charges against popular Jamaican dancehall entertainer Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer.
According to a media report issued yesterday (July 23) by a popular online Jamaican media house, The Gleaner, Supreme Court judge Bryan Sykes has turned down the application to accept two witness statements at Kartel’s murder trial.
Reportedly, the judge was not convinced that the prosecution took enough steps to locate the witnesses.
“The 12-member jury is to return to the Home Circuit Court tomorrow. At that time, the prosecution is expected to offer no further evidence and the judge will then direct the jury to return a formal verdict of not guilty,” the media house reported.
It was further reported that Kartel, Lenburgh McDonald and Nigel Thompson were taken into custody for the 2011 shooting murder of St. Catherine businessman Barrington 'Bossy' Burton.
The Gleaner highlighted that “Kartel will remain in custody because he has another murder case pending against him”.
