SKNFA turns attention to Final Four

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association is now turning its attention to the Final Four Playoffs of the Digicel Premier Division, as the regular season concluded last night (Jul. 23) at the Gardens Playfield with S. L Hosford’s St. Paul’s brushing aside Rams Village Superstars with a 2-0 victory.

With both team already qualified for the Final Four, the game still had some significance as it would have determined the teams’ final position in the standings and will identify who they will face first in the Playoffs.

Early in the first half saw both teams creating opportunities with St. Paul’s however having the upper hand. St. Paul’s pressure however paid off when Josh Leader escaped from the Village defenders and tapped the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs into the net to open the scoring.

The second goal came in the second half following a shot by Jahren Leader in the 57th minute to daunt the spirit of the Village team.

The 66th minute however provided a lifeline for Village when they were awarded a penalty. It was taken by Stevie Clarke but was denied through a brilliant save by St. Paul’s goalkeeper.

St. Paul’s continued to dominate and struck Villages’ goal post twice before the final whistle.

Officials were Tristley Bassue, Alexis Joseph, Walter James and Steadroy Techeira.

At the end of the two rounds of football, Conaree FC sits on top of the standings with 39 points and they are followed by St. Paul’s with the same amount.

Garden Hotspurs occupies third spot while Rams Village Superstars round up the top four.

Delphic Newton will miss the opportunity to defend their title after failing to qualify for the Final Four stage of the competition.

They finished fifth with 32 points.

Cayon FC has been relegated from the Premier Division to the First Division and will be replaced by KFC Trinity/Challengers.

The Final Four Playoffs will begin on August 8, but a fixture has yet to be released.
