BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE man, who was earlier today (Jul. 24) reported as being wounded following a shooting incident in Ponds Pasture, was identified as Jermaine ‘Gotti’ Henry.
According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David, last night at about 9:45, officers of the Basseterre Police Station, Criminal Investigation Department, Violent Crime Unit, Special Service Unit and the Crime Scene Unit had responded to a report of a shooting incident at Ponds Pasture.
“Initial investigation revealed that Jermaine Henry, alias ‘Gotti’, formally of McKnight but was living at Ponds Pasture, was shot and transported to the JNF General Hospital,” David said.
This media house learned that Henry, at the time of the shooting, was residing at Camella Hancock Street in Ponds Pasture.
It was also learnt that a number of residents in that area heard when the shots were fired but they were afraid to venture outside their homes until the police arrived.
One resident is of the view that “from the sound of the shots fired it couldn’t be from a pistol or revolver, but from a big gun, because the six to seven shots I heard was rapid. It was like a burst of shots and not fired singularly. In other words, it was rapid fire”.
Asked if anyone of interest is being sought, Inspector David responded in the negative but informed that investigations are ongoing.
He also said, “Anyone who has any information pertaining to this incident is ask to call the Violent Crime Unit at 465-2241 Ext. 230, the nearest police station, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477. Remember, your information will be confidential and you may be eligible to receive a reward.”
At press time, no information was forthcoming as to how many bullets had struck Henry’s body, on which part of the body he was wounded and the state of his condition.
