St Kitts Lions and Leos Club Hosts Multiple District 60 Convention

    Basseterre, St Kitts, July 25th, 2013  --  The Convention which was held on 22-26 May 2013 at the St Kitts Marriot Hotel and Royal Beach Casino, Frigate Bay under the theme “Raising the Level of Service” was attended by approximately 290 Lions and Leos from two districts, across eighteen (18) Caribbean countries.

     

    The Multiple District 60 serves the Lions Clubs in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and US Virgin Islands.

     

    The St Kitts Lions Club to hosted the 33rd Multiple District Convention to celebrate 33 years of Lionism in St Kitts. The St Kitts Lions Club was chartered in 1979 and is a member of the Lions International Sub-District 60B - Caribbean. During the five days of the Convention a series of meetings and sub-conventions were held.
     
    The Convention also saw a myriad of colours and costumes as hundreds of Lions paraded the streets of Basseterre on Friday 24 May 2013, during the most anticipated event of the annual convention. Participants were also treated to a night of local talent and food at the Jacktar Hotel, featuring the Okolo Tegremantine Arts Theatre and Calysonian Socrates.
     
    The highlight of the Convention was the election of the District Governors for Sub-Districts 60A and 60B for the new Lionistic year July 2013 to June 2014. The District Governor is the highest rank at the Sub-District level of The International Association of Lions Clubs. Lion Patrick Taylor of the First Officers Club, Trinidad and Tobago was elected as the District Governor - Sub-District 60A while Lion Izett Mc Calla, MJF of the St Andrews Lions Club, Jamaica is the new District Governor - Sub-District 60B for 2013/2014.
     
    St Kitts Lions and Leos 2013/2014 Induction and Installation The new Lionistic year 2013/2014 commenced with the installation and induction of new officers for the Lions and Leos Clubs. The event took the form of a formal ceremony and dinner at The Manhattan Gardens, Lime Kiln, Basseterre on 21 June 2013. Thirteen (13) new Lion and Leos were inducted into the Lions movement during the
    ceremony.
     
    Lion Ray John, a chartered member of the club was also recognised on his retirement from active membership following 33 years of Lionism. The Club wishes Lion Ray every success during his retirement and thank him for his loyal service and honor to the communities he served.

    St Kitts Lions Club – Projects
     
    Street Signs: During the Multiple District 60 Convention, three new street signs were erected by the club and another three is scheduled to be erected during the current Lionistic year 2013/2014. 
     
    Lions Roundabout: The club adopted responsibility for the roundabout at the Gilards, opposite the gas station in 2009 under the presidency of Lion Patricia Farrel-Heyliger, MJF. The responsibility entails monthly upkeep and development to maintain the beautification of the Federation. Further development of the site is scheduled to be completed during 2013/2014.
     
    Lions International has approximately 45,500 clubs in over 205 countries with more than 1.37 million members which aim to meet the needs of communities on a local and global scale. The St Kitts Lions Club continues to embody the spirit of Lionism and invites interested potential members to any of our meetings at 7:30 pm on the first and third Thursdays of each month at the UWI Open Campus.
