Leewards stun Barbados in Conaree

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - Leeward Islands shocked their Bajan counterparts as they  pulled off a nail biting one wicket victory on the third and final day of their second round match in the Regional Under-19 tournament at Conaree on Thursday (Jul. 25).

A determined last wicket partnership between Tristan Hanley and Jeremiah Louis, both of St. Kitts, helped to chase down a daunting 300-run winning target set by Barbados.

The Bajans led on first innings after dismissing Leewards cheaply and were hoping to press for an outright victory by declaring their second innings on 172 for four.

However, a 146-run for the 9th wicket swung the momentum back in Leewards favour.

Powell was unbeaten on 74 and Louis 69 as Leewards got home safely at 301 for nine.

Over at Edgar Gilbert Sports Complex in Molineaux, Jeremy Solonzano smashed his third century of the tournament to setup a 30 run victory for Trinidad and Tobago over Guyana.

Solonzano stroked an undefeated 136 while Bryan Christmas scored 72, the two putting together an opening partnership of 170.

The Trinidadians powered their way to 236 for six declared in their second innings giving Guyana a target of 272.

However, Jesse Bootan and Brian Charles combined to stifle the chase and wreck the Guyanese innings, grabbing five wickets for 20 and three wickets for 33 respectively and bowling the Guyanese out for 141.

At Warner Park, Jamaica, who enjoyed first innings lead, cruised to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Windward Islands.

Set 115 to win, Leroy Lug and Tristan Coleman carried Jamaica to victory at 117 for the loss of four wickets. Lug was unbeaten on 45 and Coleman scored 39. Taryck Gabriel picked up two wickets for 33 runs.
