BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ONE year after a controversy that ended the Olympic dream of Kittitian sprinter Kim Collins, the former world champion returned to London and the Olympic Stadium yesterday (Jul. 27) to compete in the men’s 100m.
Collins had made headline news the world over when he was barred from participating in the London Olympics after he allegedly went missing for a number of days.
Consequently, he vowed to never represent the country of his birth again.
He however finally got his chance to compete at the Olympic Stadium against the likes of Olympic Champion Usain Bolt, Nester Carter and Christophe Lemaitre.
Collins burst got out of the blocks ahead of Bolt who had a docile start, but the world's fastest man powered through the field at the Diamond League Meet to finish in 9.85 seconds at the stadium a year after his Olympic triumph.
American Michael Rodgers was second in 9.98, and Jamaica's Nesta Carter was third.
Collins faded to finish fourth after his fantastic start in a time of 10.03.
The next major meet will be the 14th IAAF World Championships in Athletics to be held in Moscow, Russia from 10-18 August.
