BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – INVESTIGATIONS are being made into two traffic accidents that occurred over the weekend, one of which resulted in a man being charged with “driving under the influence”.
Information given by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Traffic Department indicates that at 2:40 a.m. on Saturday (July 27), a traffic accident occurred along Pond Road.
It involved motor jeep P1464, which is owned and was being driven by Vincent Percival of Lime Kiln, and motorcar P5443 owned by Alexander Simon of Lower Monkey Hill.
The Department also reports that both vehicles were parked along Pond Road in proximity to each other when the driver of P1464 entered his – which was parked opposite the Spanish Bar – set it in motion and lost control during the process. It was not brought to a halt until it had collided with the front of P5443.
SKNVibes understands that the impact resulted in damage to both vehicles as well as the perimeter fence of a home in the area.
A passenger of P1464 was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for examination and possible treatment while the driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with “driving under the influence”.
The other incident which is under investigation occurred at about 1:00 a.m. yesterday (July 28) along the F.T. Williams Highway in the vicinity of the roundabout near to Gillard’s Enterprises.
According to the Traffic Department, two motor jeeps – P4032 driven by Raphael Martin of Lower Monkey Hill and PA8765 driven by Natasha Smith of Boyd’s Village – were travelling in a westerly direction when the collision occurred.
The Department indicated that according to the information they received, P4032 – which was at the front – slowed down to negotiate any oncoming traffic and was struck from behind by PA8765, causing it to lose control.
The result was that it careened into the eastern concrete fence of Gillard’s Enterprises before coming to a halt.
SKNVibes is not aware of any injuries to the parties involved in the crash but the Department indicated that the driver of PA8765 - Smith – was taken to the JNF for the testing of her blood alcohol level, the result of which would determine whether she would face a DUI charge or not.
“The Traffic Department is urging motorists to adhere to the rules of the road. We are asking all to comply with the posted speed limits and also to drive according to road conditions. Additionally, we are appealing to motorists that if you are going out to party and once you have intentions of consuming alcohol, designate a responsible person who is not drinking to be the driver or take a taxi, or call a responsible person to assist.
