British Virgin Islands August Festival is Show Stopping

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, July 31st, 2013  --  An explosion of colour, energy, music, dance and celebratory performances Tortola, British Virgin Islands, July 30, 2013 – Where in the Caribbean can you experience more than one festival village, “jump up” in two j’ouverts, sample authentic local cuisine, and thrust your hips to the hottest sounds of soca, reggae, and calypso on three separate stages?

     

    For this kind of fete one must head to August Festival 2013 in the British Virgin Islands where revelers experience a cultural festival unlike any other in the Caribbean. The Ira Oliver Skelton Festiville, themed under, “Looking Back at 175 Years of Being Fully Free – Our Culture, Our Heritage and Virgin Islands History”, opened Friday, July 26 with non-stop festivities that
    continue into Saturday, August 10.
     
    This year’s event pays homage to the unique history of the Virgin Islands, highlighting the country’s rich traditions and offers visitors an opportunity to take part in the islands’ unforgettable culture. The festival village kicks off on Tuesday, July 30 with sounds and performances by Stylee B and VI Showtime; Wednesday, July 31 partygoers will head to the village for the Soca Monarch Competition followed by performances by Evolution Band, and Cool Session Brass on August 1.
     
    The Food Fair highlights on Friday, August 2 at the Noel Lloyd Park with Breakfast at 7am and lunch starting at noon. Festival Village comes alive with a jam packed line-up by Razor Blades, Tony Rebel, Queen Ifrika, KES; Saturday, August 3 is the day for sports fans to witness plays between the BVI National Soccer Team vs. Lietsch City F.C. of Basel, Switzerland at the A. O. Shirley Grounds. Lashing Dogs, Richie Spice, Etana, Explainer, Farmer Nappy, and Iwer George take the stage at night.
     
    On Sunday, August 4 a Freedom March & Emancipation Service takes place at the Sunday Morning Well with the Miss BVI Pageant at 8:00 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Complex. Village Entertainment includes Latin Band, Final Faze, and Pumpa. Monday, August 5 is the Rise & Shine Tramp at 4:00 a.m. with a Sunrise Service at the Admin Building. The August Monday Parade leads into village entertainment by Hardcore Band and the opening of the East End / Long Look Juliette Penn Festiville, with an opening ceremony to include DJ Bertrum, Tenshun Band, Imagination Brass, and Stylee Band.
     
    Horse races and an international soca show lead the day on Tuesday, August 6 with performers from St. Lucia, Grenada, Trinidad and Dominica. On Wednesday, August 7, the streets of East End come alive with the August Wednesday parade. The Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta begins Thursday, August 8 with Serenaders, Onyan and Burning Flames. It’s all fun and games on Friday, August 9 when crowds come to watch cultural races, donkey races, eat roast pig and vibe with Planet VI a.k.a. Rock City, Destra, and Monea & K’Are.
