Will Nevis’ J’Ouvert be poorly attended on August Monday?

2012 J’Ouvert in Nevis

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A BlackBerry broadcast message is currently being circulated with rumoured entertainment news that the Nu Vybes Band International (De Sugar Band) is planning a weekend line-up extending into August Monday with a J’Ouvert jam session through the streets of Basseterre.

That particular broadcast message, titled ‘Sugar Band Weekend Line up’, which apparently began circulating last night (July 30), says: “Anybody going Nevis for J’ouvert Morning Cancel your plans now now now….Hear why!!!This has just been confirmed!!!”

SKNVibes, this morning (July 31), contacted lead vocalist of the band, Gregory ‘Mr. Mention’ Hobson in an effort to find out the authenticity of the broadcast.

Hobson stated that “it’s not official”.

In a follow-up question on whether or not the band is actually planning to have any event, he repeated, “It’s not official,” and quickly added, “I cannot comment on it right now.”

A similar message is being circulated by email, which states that Kollision is one of the bands that would be participating in the alleged St. Kitts J’Ouvert Morning event.

When contacted for a comment, Kollision’s Manager Shervin White informed this media house that the band would not be in St. Kitts on August Monday.

White said Koillision Band is scheduled to depart St. Kitts on Friday (Aug. 2) for Anguilla, where it would be performing at that island’s annual Carnival festivities and is expected to return on Tuesday (Aug. 6).

Meanwhile, reliable information reaching SKNVibes indicates that Extreme J’Ouvert would be on the road during the upcoming long weekend, because the troupe would not be in Nevis for this year’s J’Ouvert.

At press time, a number of phone calls were made to get a comment from the organiser of Extreme J’Ouvert, Ronnie Rascal, but they were all unsuccessful.

Annually, many Kittitians would flock to Nevis on August Monday to participate in the J’Ouvert jam session, which is one of the much-anticipated events of the Culturama festivity.

Should there be entertainment road action in St. Kitts on August Monday, for the first time in the history of Culturama, according to this media house’s knowledge, attendance at the J’Ouvert session in Nevis can be adversely affected through Kittitians.
