BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Chairperson for Nevis’ Culturama J’Ouvert, Ricky Hill, informed SKNVibes that he expects the upcoming annual event to be “good as usual”.

Speaking with this media house today (Aug. 1), Hill disclosed that four bands from Nevis and one from St. Kitts would on Monday (Aug. 5) be taking part in the annual event. The bands are Kassonova, Kore, Utrasonics, Odisi and Small Axe.

Additionally, Nevis Pan Ensemble will be on the road.

Kore Band recently won the Band Clash Competition and Ultra Sonics is the reigning Road March Champions.

The expected starting time for J’Ouvert is 4:35 a.m.

Hill disclosed that each band would have a different starting point that would see Kassanova Band jamming from Clay Ghaut/Chicken Stone in Gingerland; Kore Band at Beach Road below the Cost Me Less mini mart; Ultra Sonics from the Valu Mart car park area; Odisi Band at Pinney’s Estate, while Small Axe Band from St. Kitts would be in the heart of Charlestown at the A.L. Evelyn Building.

While speaking about the scheduled starting time, Hill pointed out the bands coming in from the countryside would have to get into Charlestown before 12 noon for the judging criteria in the Road March Contest.

Asked what he anticipates J’Ouvert 2013 to be, Hill said, “A good turnout as usual”, noting that the “whole of the populace” would be on the road. He went on to say that Kittitians normally come over and partake in the event as well.

He was also asked about the alleged J’Ouvert morning event to be held in St. Kitts on the same day with Nevis’ own, Hill stated he “keeps hearing about it” and in his opinion “you must have choices”.

Hill is extending an invitation to Kittitians to attend the J’Ouvert, and for those who may not be able to do so to visit Nevis next year for Culturama 40th celebration.

“Come next year for the 40th. It will be bigger and bigger…it’s the big one!”

He is appealing to revellers and spectators to go out to enjoy J’Ouvert and, in doing so, to “behave”. He said “security would be tight” and is warning potential trouble makers that if one gets arrested one would be locked up until Culturama ends.

Hill shared that he has a J’Ouvert troupe called the ‘Long Jam Posse’ and people who are interested in joining could contact him at 665-0684.

Meanwhile, persons desirous of watching the live J’Ouvert morning coverage can do so via nevistvonline.com.

The 39th annual Culturama festivity which started on July 25 is slated to end on August 6.
