BASSETERRE. St. Kitts - THE upcoming annual Nevis Cultural Parade is expected to feature a mass kaleidoscope of colours and excitement through the streets of Charlestown on Tuesday (Aug.6).

The Parade is schedule to start at 1:00 p.m. and will kick off from the Artism Village and proceed along the Island’s Main Road.

The six bands on Nevis expected to be on the road for the event are Odisi, Kassanova, Kore, Xzibit, Ultrasonics and Ultimate.

Chairman of the Adults Street Parade Committee, Rohan Isles informed SKNVibes that presently there eight troupes registered to take part, including Royal Rampage, Nevisian Delight, Indian Castle Derby and Mike and the Boys.

He said each troupe would accommodate 20-plus people and that one of them would be coming from the US (from the Nevisian Association) and it has registered over 100 individuals.

Asked about the theme for the adult section, Isles informed that there is none but that this year’s Festival theme ‘History! Culture! Music! Combine! Culturama 39’ would be observed.

He said the troupes are usually given the opportunity to portray designs related to the Culturama theme instead of having set themes.

As it relates to costume construction, Isles shared that the troupes are responsible for that aspect.  He noted that some of the options include using the service of tailors and that some might get theirs done at Bankers Mas Camp in St. Kitts.

Folkore troupes as well as the various winners of the Culturama festivity will also be a part of the procession.

Isles revealed that he expects the Parade to be one of the “largest”, noting that once all the troupes come out it would be a “good and exciting parade”.

Additionally, he pointed out that “for the first in a long time” floats would be a part of the annual Parade.

Chairperson for the Junior Street Parade, Seba Jones said the overall theme is “Nevis Nice”. She stated that seven primary schools have registered with some 207 students.

Jones noted that there would be three sections under the sub-themes of Sea, Floral and Agriculture.

She explained that the costumes under each section would be FLORAL - Hibiscus, Flamboyant and Sugar Cane; SEA- Brown Pelican, Coral and Fish; and for AGRICULTURE - Pumpkin, Green Leafy Vegetables and Mangoes.

Jones said that the initial designs for the costumes were done by Rifka Harding and that the production is being done by Bankers Mas Camp.

She also said that the costumes would be available for viewing on Friday (Aug. 2) and Saturday (Aug. 3) at 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. respectively at Harley’s Road Community Centre.
