BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FAMILY members and friends of the late Desroy Lester Walwyn alias ‘Shootout’ converged at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church yesterday afternoon (Dec. 9) to pay their last respects to him.

The life of the 25-year-old man was snuffed out in the wee hours of Sunday, November 30 when he was shot while in the vicinity of Henry’s Night Spot, Cayon.

Since then, those closest to him have endeavoured to seek the motive(s) for his passing.

The solemnity of the occasion was felt as family members and others paid tribute to the former football/basketball player and even more so when he was eulogised by Ivanka James.

Officiating minister, the Reverend Father Elroy Zakers gave much food for thought in his sermon, during which he gave a number of possible solution to effectively dealing with the gang and crime situation that exist in the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis.

He said crime fighting should include all members of and groups in society rather than crime being an issue directly linked to or associated with politics. Reverend Zakers said the crime situation will change only when the young men of the nation are returned to a place where they are in good standing with God.

The officiating minister made a call to those who are “walking around with guns like we walk around with bibles” to put their weapons to rest, “close the gangs”, and return the Federation to a state “where everyone can live”.~~Adz:Left~~

Following the brief ceremony, the casket which bore Walwyn’s remains was ushered out of the church and taken to the area in the church compound where he was interred.

Tomorrow, a home-going service will be held for Trevon ‘Waxy’ Francis who was killed during the same Sunday morning incident. His ceremony will take place at the same church.
