BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DOMINICA’S representative 19-year-old Leslassa Armour-Shillingford has captured her third crown in regional competitions for the year following her victory at the eight annual Miss Caribbean Culture Pageant, which ended shortly before 2:00 this morning (Aug. 6) at the Cultural Complex in Nevis.
Armour-Shillingford captured one of the most nail-biting categories of pageants as she walked away with Best Interview with her ‘royal’ status, having consistently outshone the other 11 competitors.
Miss St. Kitts Zinga Imo placed First Runner-up and won two judged categories in Best Swimwear and Best Evening Wear.
Miss St. Croix (USVI) A’Jada Burke took the Second Runner-up position and was adjudged Best Talent. She was also awarded the prize for Miss Photogenic while Third and Fourth Runners-up spots went to Miss St. Lucia Filamena Day and Miss Nevis Denesia Smithen respectively.
The Pageant, which was part of the 39th annual Culturama festival, was hosted by the winner of popular American reality TV series - Project Runway Season 9 and former Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe, Nya Ayoung Chee, along with Nevis’ ‘man with the smooth voice’ Mervin Hanley.
The other contestants were: Miss Curacao Jurnalis Henson, Miss Dominican Republic Rosa Martinez, Miss Montserrat Kadija Furlonge, Miss Guyana Faydeha King, Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines Karla Gellizeau, Miss Trinidad and Tobago Jenelle Thongs and Miss Anguilla Taitu Goodwin.
The crowning of Armour-Shillingford’s came just four days after she won the Miss Jaycees Queen Show which was held in Antigua on August 2. In June, she won the annual Miss Carival Queen Pageant held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
In February, she won the Miss Dominica Pageant 2013 title in the annual local competition in her homeland.
