BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER what people are hailing as a successful J’Ouvert and Parade of Troupes for the Culturama Festival 2013, results of the Road March Competition have been released.
In an announcement made by the Culturama Committee this evening (Aug. 6), the Kore Band was adjudged the 2013 Culturama Road March Champion with a total of 406 points – beating its closest competitor by more than 140 points.
The Kore’s ‘Love De Festival’ is said to be the most popular song to have been released for the 2013 Festival season.
The Odisi Band collected 259 with its 2013 song, ‘In De Saddle’. And last year’s Road March Champion - the Ultra Sonics Band – came in for third, amassing 251 point with its tune ‘Big Drum Mas’.
Executive Director of the Culturama Secretariat Abonati Liburd explained to SKNVibes that there were two sets of criteria by which the bands were judged; one for J’Ouvert and the other for Parade Day.
Liburd said he deemed the street activities a success despite the hiccups experienced.
“J’Ouvert started out slow but by mid-morning it picked up. It was another successful J’Ouvert. We were off to very late start today (Parade Day), nonetheless, the persons who were lining the streets were satisfied in the end because of the number of troupes and how colourful and entertaining they were. Those factors really negated the long wait and the frustrations that persons would have gone through in terms of waiting.”
Liburd indicated that the street activities were incident-free and he offered commendation to the revellers for their good behaviour.
He also commended the Kore Band on its victory and indicated that other awards for the street activities would be announced sometime tomorrow (Aug. 7).
