The stunning and picturesque waters of St. Maarten will be the site of another classic poker battle

August 8th 2013 - As cheesy as it may sound, poker really makes dreams come true. With a couple of stabs at the pot, the luck of draw going in their favor, and an opponent committing one fatal error; a poker player can turn from a make-it-or-break-it gambler, to a high-rolling multimillionaire all in one sitting. Apart from that, they’ll also have the notoriety of besting a tough field of equally dangerous competitors and will forever etch their names in the poker history books. But more than the fame and fortune that comes from being a highly successful poker player; they also get to enjoy the benefits of living the jet setting life of a rock star. They get to travel around the world to participate in major tournaments and have a glimpse of the diverse culture of local inhabitants. And one of the personal favorite destinations of poker players is the luscious and scenic regions of the Caribbean.

The beautiful islands and the surrounding coasts of the Caribbean region attracts tourists and serves as a fitting backdrop to the war that will ensue on the felt. The World Poker Tour will once again set its sails in the waters of the Caribbean and embark on an exciting ride at the Casino Royale in St. Maarten. Poker players ranging from ambitious partypoker.com online card sharks to tried-and-tested WPT veterans come together on the felt tables to test their mettle and outlast the competition. The six-day event promises to be another classic similar to the previous legs of the WPT in the region.

In 2004, the poker world saw the Great Dane, Gus Hansen, as he wowed the crowd with his thrilling bluffs and ultra-aggressive style of play. He bested the likes of the “Cowboy” Hoyt Corkins and “Kid Poker” Daniel Negreanu to bag close to half-a-million dollars in cash prize. The 2005 installment of the series saw the meteoric rise of an unknown English poker lad named John Gale. Relatively new to the style of play of Texas Hold’em, Gale surprisingly outwitted a field of 461 players to bring home a whopping $890,000. By 2006, the World Poker Tour spiked-up the first place prize of the Caribbean Poker Adventure; the same year also saw the crowning of satellite tournament qualifier, Steve Paul-Ambrose. The business and science graduate from the University of Waterloo in Ontario went home with more than $1.3 million in his pocket. Following his footsteps was former gamer Ryan Daut who won the event a year after, cashing in a fat check worth $1.5 million.

This November 19 marks the beginning of another historic year for Caribbean poker, as they will witness another player’s dreams come to life. For more details about the event visit the WPT Caribbean
