NIA CHARLESTOWN Nevis, August 08th, 2013) -- The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS) has extended an invitation to volunteers willing to assist with the digitisation of the society’s archived historical records.

According to Executive Director of the NHCS Mrs. Evelyn Henville, the digitisation is an effort to protect the records from the elements of weather, wear and tear and insects, in order to preserve them for future generations. She explained that the volunteers would be trained by members of the specialist archive service of the University of York in England.

“We are planning a training session during the week of August 12th with a team from the Borthwick Institute…We need volunteers who would like to participate in this training and particularly persons with library and archiving skills, photography, and computer technology skills.

“The records we would like to begin with are those that the general public and our students use most often, such as records on our enslaved history, church records, blue books and council records,” Mrs. Henville said.

Interested individuals who possess the necessary skills should contact Executive Director of the NHCS Evelyn Henville at evelyn53@aol.com or ehenville@gmail.com to express their interest and/or to have any queries about the project addressed.

The date, location and other logistics of the training session will be communicated to interested individuals in a subsequent notice.
