BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE three young men who were charged with committing the Federation’s most recent murders have been remanded to prison.

Twenty-year-old twins Torday and Torquel Burroughs along with 19-year-old Akil Anthony, all of Cunningham Village, Cayon, appeared before the District “A” Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday ((Dec. 9) having been charged with the murders of Desroy ‘Shootout’ Walwyn and Travon ‘Woxy’ Francis.

According to the police, they were taken into custody late last week but were officially charged on Monday, December 8.

They were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison where they await a preliminary inquiry during which it will be decided whether or not there is enough evidence against them for the case to be heard at the High Court of Justice.

Walwyn, 25 and Francis, 25, were among eight individuals shot during the early morning hours of Sunday, November 30 in the vicinity of Henry’s Night Spot, Cayon. According to police reports, the incident occurred when two masked men opened fire on a group of persons there.

They were pronounced dead on the scene by the District Medical Officer while the other casualties were taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.

While charged with the murders, the accused men have not been charged with the injuring of the other six individuals who survived the onslaught.

SKNVibes made inquiries about whether or not charges to this end would be preferred against the men but the information is not forthcoming. This media house was however assured that “investigations are ongoing”.

Barbadian Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Stephen Jones performed autopsies on the men and concluded that in the case of Walwyn, death was due to “gunshot injuries to the head and chest wall resulting in haemmorhage and shock”, while Francis’ death was due to “gunshot injuries to the chest wall which resulted in haemmorhage and shock”.

The two young men’s deaths have taken the number of murders to have occurred within the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis for the year to a record 22.

Walwyn was laid to rest on Tuesday and Francis was laid to rest yesterday (Nov. 10).
