BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PRESIDENT of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), Anthony Johnson said that the 2013 Digicel Premier Division Playoffs would be a historic one due to a number of firsts.
“The 2013 Digicel Premier Division and Final Four Playoffs is truly a historic one, in that it is the very first time the Final Four will be held at the Silver Jubilee Stadium. It is the very first time as well that the Final Four will be held in the month of August, and it is also the very first time the Final Four will be held without the perennial competitors, Newtown United.”
Johnson stated that the competition would be very attractive and one of an international standard.
“We believe that it will be an extremely attractive competition. It will be held in an environment that is of international standard and the four teams on show are the top four teams in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. So we expect to see the very best ‘footballing’ talent on display over the next two weeks.”
Johnson also promised that patrons would be entertained at every match played.
“We will have in addition to great football exciting entertainment during each half time. We are encouraging the football fraternity to come out in their numbers and to support this year’s Final Four and to bring each and every member of your family.”
General Secretary Stanley Jacobs also made mention of a new initiative that would come onboard for the Playoffs.
“We will introduce an exciting competition called fanatic, and we are encouraging all our fans to dress up in team colours, team costumes and when they come to the games persons will have their pictures taken. Those pictures will be posted on our Facebook page and the fan with the most likes will receive a free ticket to all three games in the Finals and $100.”
The Final Four Playoffs began yesterday (Aug. 8) with Hobson Enterprise Garden Hotspurs being pitted against S.L. Hosford’s St. Paul’s and Rams Village Superstars will take on Conaree FC.
The best-of-three Finals are set for August 17, 21 and 24.
