BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - SCHEDULES and operations at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport (RLB Int’l Airport) were not affected by the aircraft incident which occurred yesterday morning (Aug. 9), but the St. Christopher and Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) had indicated that an investigation into the incident was launched.
A press release issued by the SCASPA explained that the aircraft which was involved is a Netjets Sales Inc. Learjet.
The release explained that around 5:55 a.m. “an Air Traffic Controller observed the 2006 nine-seater Cessna Citation Sovereign bearing registration N369QS appeared to slide off of the parking area, down a grassy slope, before striking a small tree”.
The aircraft - SKNVibes understands – travelled some 600 feet from its parked position at the western apron of the airport to one near the southern portion of the perimeter fence of the RLB Int’l Airport.
The communique quoted a SCASPA official as indicating that the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and a number of aviation bodies are making investigations into the incident.
“What we can say is that the aircraft arrived in Saint Kitts yesterday, August 8th at approximately 5:47 p.m. from Syracuse Hancock International Airport and was scheduled to leave today. This incident has not affected any scheduled flights operating from of the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport. The St. Christopher and Nevis Royal Police Force, the Airport Fire and Rescue Services, along with the National Civil Aviation Department and the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority have been notified and are on the scene and investigating the matter.”
The pilot and passengers who came aboard the aircraft disembarked after it landed on Thursday (Aug. 8), the press release explains, and further indicated that there have been no reports of injuries “and no passenger or ground handling safety issues have been raised”.
