Dr. Timothy Harris

    PLP totally against boundary changes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DR. TIMOTHY HARRIS has adamantly expressed that by hurriedly realigning the electoral boundaries, Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Denzil L. Douglas is attempting to “steal the General Elections”.

Speaking exclusively with SKNVibes, Dr. Harris – Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven and Political Leader of the People’s Labour Party (PLP) –– said his party was invited by the Electoral Boundaries Commission to make suggestions regarding boundary changes, to which it responded by indicating that the party is totally against changes being made at this time.

“We do not support any boundary changes at this time. We have advanced a number of reasons indicating that it is out of order and highly irresponsible for a boundaries committee to be meeting at a time when a Motion of No Confidence is pending in the very government that has put the Boundaries Commission together, and that both Motions of No Confidence ought to take precedence over any other matter.”

Dr. Harris said his party also indicated its lack of confidence in the Commission’s Chairman Peter Jenkins, whom he described as “biased” by virtue of the fact that he is “a known activist of the Labour Party”.

The use of preliminary data from the 2011 Census was another issue with which the PLP has disagreed.

The St. Christopher Seven Parliamentary Representative surmised that the Prime Minister has overstayed his welcome as Political Leader of St. Kitts and Nevis and is now executing a plan to steal the elections.

“The Prime Minister is attempting clearly to steal the elections and we want to ensure that democracy survives. The Prime Minister is on his way out. The poll that he has done has indicated that he has lost considerable support in the country…it says people want a change and that he has been in office too long. And in the context of this, the Prime Minister believes that he can stay in office by gerrymandering and then making a mockery of the electoral system.”
