BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FORMER Deputy Prime Minister of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party-led government, the Hon. Sam Condor has publicly taken some responsibility and apologised for what he called the atrocities that took place at the hands of the government.
Condor served in that capacity for 18 years and was a senior member of the SKNLP for in excess of 20 years, until earlier this year when serious and irreparable differences between his philosophies and those of the party was a major contributor to him tendering his resignation from Cabinet and subsequently broke ties with the party.
The now Deputy Leader of the People’s Labour Party (PLP), Condor, speaking Thursday evening (Aug. 8) on his party’s platform, expressed that he and his party leader, the Hon. Timothy Harris, are partially responsible for throwing their support behind Prime Minister the Rt. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas while he misused and abused the people of St. Christopher and Nevis.
“We have to take some responsibility for what has happened…we have to take some responsibility for that. And you want (me) tell you the truth? I do say that I – more than anybody else – is responsible for this. Because we sat by and gave Douglas support for all these wrongs that he was doing with the false belief that we were trying to save the party and to save people like us here. That was wrong. That was wrong!
“And I want to say to you that’s why I take more responsibility than my other colleagues, because here in Constituency Number Three you know the role that we have played in terms of keeping the Labour Party alive…Always, the Labour Party could have counted on us and they relied on us and they used us to promote and benefit themselves, to enrich and fatten themselves at the expense of the ordinary people of this country. While I don’t intend to get involved in any character assassination, the truth must be told, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”
According to the former Deputy Prime Minister, Prime Minister Douglas has been allowed to fool the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and has been allowed to hijack and “use the Labour Party to promote himself and his relatives and friends at the expense of the country and its people…
“It saddens me, it saddens me that we allow that man to hijack the party and what it stands for, to ride on the back of the party, to rest himself and his family at the expense of all of us…it not only saddens me. but it angers me”.
The Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Three said that having observed the wrongs and ills perpetrated against the people of the land, it was time to take a stand, speak out and effect change.
“And that is why we have decided to put things right and to make sure that we stand up for the people of this country in a real way. And that is why we are here…”
