BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A man, who many claimed to be a notorious bandit, has left two young female family members traumatised after breaking into their home, terrorising and robbing them of a sum of money.
The man, Stanford Williams of Back Way, Sandy Point, was however arrested, charged and is currently on remand awaiting trial.
A police press release only stated that he was charged with burglary allegedly committed on July 31, 2013.
However, an investigation launched by this publication revealed that in addition to burglarising the home, Williams was allegedly armed with a handgun and a knife and had threatened the young women’s lives.
According to well-informed sources, the incident took place in The Alley, Sandy Point and lasted for almost two hours.
“Around eight o’clock on Wednesday night [July 31], the same crook was seen by a male resident hiding in some tall grass on the northern side of the two young women’s home. I guess, as is said in the movies, he was casing the joint.
“He came back at around eleven o’clock, hid behind an old shed that was in the yard and removed some glass louver panes from one of the windows on the western side of the house and entered the building,” one source said.
The source added that the duo was unaware of what was happening until he made his presence felt.
“He started terrorising the girls and demanded money from them. They gave him over EC$800 but he said that he wanted more and had placed the gun in a threatening manner to one of the young women’s head. At one stage, the other young lady ventured out on the verandah, but she did not cry out for help because of the threat to the one in the house with the bandit.
“Wanting more money, the boldfaced criminal continued to terrorise the young ladies with the aim of them not reporting the matter to the police. He even told them that he wanted EC$4 000 more and that they should put it in the culvert on the southern side of the house. He then left the two young traumatised ladies’ home near one o’clock.
“And you know what…the boldfaced thief returned early in the morning to see if the money was in the culvert. He also came back later in the evening to make another check but the young ladies did not follow his instructions,” the source explained.
It was also said that he told the women he was living in Basseterre and had relatives in Sandy Point.
The matter was reported at the Sandy Point Police Station and Williams, the alleged bandit, was arrested on Friday (Aug. 2).
This media house learned that the young women have since removed from the house.
Further investigations revealed that Williams had committed similar crimes in Anguilla and someone had purchased a ticket for him to get off that island.
