BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - RAMS VILLAGE SUPERSTARS were eliminated from further contending for a place in the Final following their second straight defeat in a SKNFA Digicel Premier Division Final Four Playoff match played last evening (Aug. 10) at Silver Jubilee Stadium.

Following a 3-1 loss to Conaree in the first encounter of the Playoffs meant Village were in a must win situation in order to be given a chance to progress to the Final.

The game started with great end to end action as both teams pressed for an early advantage.

The opening goal however came when Javiem Blanchette broke down the right side of St. Paul’s attack and crossed the ball to the centre, where he found Terrance Warde who easily tapped it passed Glen Nibett in the goal on the stroke of halftime.

The second half progressed in the same vein as the first, but Village was rocked when a deflected shot from Rasheed Hodge in the 57th minute ricocheted passed Nisbett who was left wrong-footed.

Village however showed immense fight in search of their opening goal and was rewarded a penalty in the 74th minute.

A confident Ajah Jeffers stepped up to take the penalty but was denied by the sure-handed Jamal Francis, which left the Village Superstars’ fans and players dejected.

St. Paul’s however could have had a third, but a powerful strike from Javiem Blanchette struck the post.

The 2-0 victory moves St. Paul’s one step closer for a place in the final as they are now on four points, while Village, yet to register a point, have been automatically eliminated though they have one game remaining.

Officials were Caldon Duncan, Graeme Browne, Steadroy Douglas and James Matthew. Match Commissioner was Fitzroy Eddy and Referees Assessor was Shirlene Browne.

This evening will see Conaree taking on HE Garden Hotspurs.

The SKNFA also honoured another stalwart in Judith Gumbs for her contribution to the sport.
