BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RUMOURS that the Kore Band has been stripped of the Culturama 2013 Road March Title are yet to be substantiated or denied by the Culturama Committee.
Last Tuesday (Aug. 6), the Kore Band was given the title and, according to the points which were released by the Committee, it has amassed a total of 406 points with its closest competitor, the Odisi Band, gaining 259 points. The Ultra Sonics Band was named Second Runner-up with 251 points.
Days later, a letter began circulating which was signed by five individuals, one each representing bands on Nevis, in which they protested and expressed concerns about the results and requested an audience with the Culturama officials.
SKNVibes understands that a meeting was held on Friday (Aug. 9) with no final decision being reached at the end of it.
However, the following day brought with it an abundance of suggestions that the Kore Band had been stripped of its title.
SKNVibes today (Aug. 12) contacted Chairperson of the Culturama Committee Dr. Patricia Bartlette who, when asked about the authenticity of the rumours, indicated that she could not make a pronouncement on the situation until certain measures have been taken. She also indicated that a press release is being prepared.
“I can’t release any information on it until we get the official position documented and circulated to those concerned first. So we are working on that right now…I can’t say anything except to say that we are working on it and as soon as the bands are notified then the general public would be notified…but we can’t do it the other way around.”
She noted however that she is not in a position to indicate when that process would be completed.
