BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation tonight (Aug. 12) has recorded its 20th homicide for the year with the shooting death of a teenager.
Dead is 19-year-old Devon Browne of Brighton who was shot around 8:00 p.m. in Upper Cayon, in what many residents described to be a drive-by incident.
In a press statement, Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David explained that police responded to the shooting and are seeking a person of interest.
“Police responded to a fatal shooting in Cayon around 8 p.m. Monday night. Initial investigation revealed that19 –ear-old Devon Browne of Brighton was fatally wounded by an unknown assailant. The investigation is being conducted by the Violent Crimes Unit. The Joint Security Forces are actively searching for a person of interest.
“Anyone having information pertaining to this incident is asked to call the Violent Crime Unit or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1- 800-8477. Remember you can remain anonymous and you may qualify for a reward,” the statement reads.
On arrival at the scene, this media house observed members of the Criminal Investigations Department and Crime Scene Technicians conducting investigations, where a large crowd had gathered.
Questions were asked of some members of the crowd who claimed to have heard reports of gunfire and were disturbed by the alarming news.
One young lady claimed that she saw a car speeding down the road away from the scene shortly after she heard the report of a few gunshots.
Another claimed to have been asleep and was awakened upon hearing the sound of gunfire and shortly after the wailing sounds of an Ambulance.
