BASSETERRE St. Kitts, August 13th 2013 - On Saturday 3rd August, 2013, members of the Rotaract Club of St. Kitts travelled to Nevis to visit the Flamboyant Home and serve its residents with lunch. The Flamboyant Home caters to 38 residents, of which 37 resides there. This visit marked a historic and memorable occasion as Ms Lena Brown, a resident of the home, celebrated her ninety ninth birthday.
Members of the Rotaract Club of St. Kitts were joined and assisted by some of the participants from Nevis who attended the Ryla 2010 and also members of the Rotary Club of Nevis. The visiting groups entertained the residents with their singing and in turn the residents shared their stories and memories with them. The management and staff of the Flamboyant Home offered words of appreciation and encouraged the groups to visit again.
The Rotaract Club of St. Kitts first undertook this project in August 2012. Realising that this gesture meant so much to the residents of the home, it was decided that it would become an annual event. Undertaking this event provides the members of the Rotaract Club of St Kitts with an ideal opportunity to show their gratitude to the persons who have made their contribution to our society and to ensure that they are not forgotten.
The Rotaract Club of St Kitts does a similar outreach project on National Hero’s Day, 16 September, for the residents of the Cardin Home in St. Kitts.
The Club wishes to thank Horsford’s Valu Mart and Avon for donating several items which were presented to the Flamboyant Home.
