    POLICE/COURT ROUND UP

    ~~Adz:Right~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Sandy Point resident was over the past week convicted of striking and injuring a Traffic Warden while she was executing her duties.

     

    The offender, Ishan Daniel of Downing Street, appeared before the District “B” Magistrate’s Court on a May 26, 2008 careless driving charge. He was convicted and fined $850 which is to be paid within two months or, in default, he would be required to serve two months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    According to police, the circumstances of the incident are that “Daniel’s vehicle struck and injured a Traffic Warden while she was directing traffic at the pedestrian crossing in Sandy Point”.

     

    For driving without due care and attention, taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner, driving without insurance, and failing to report an accident, Bath Village, Nevis resident Jason Gerald was convicted and fined $500 on each count. The fines have to be paid within one month, two months, one month and three months respectively.

     

    An $800 fine was slapped on Javonnie Pemberton of Pump Bay after he was convicted of a drug-related offence. The offence, possession of cannabis, was committed on December 9 and he has a one-month period to pay the fine or serve one month in prison.

     

    Also convicted of marijuana possession is Omarie Hendrickson of Zion, Nevis. He too was ordered to pay an $800 fine in one month or serve a one--month imprisonment.

     

    A 17-year-old has a somewhat hefty price to pay as chastisement for a wounding offence which he was found guilty. He appeared before the District “A” Magistrate Court and was ordered to pay a compensatory sum of $1 000 to the virtual complainant in the case. The sum is to be paid within two months or the lad will be jailed for one month.

     

    For the offence of driving an unlicensed vehicle and operating a scooter without wearing the appropriate headgear, Bath Villager Jaime Parry was convicted and fined $200 and $250 respectively. The fines must be paid within one month or he will be required to spend one month in prison.

     

    For driving without insurance, driving an unlicensed vehicle and operating a vehicle without the appropriate headgear, Dwight Dore of Jessup’s Village was convicted and fined $200 on each count. The sums must be paid within one month or a 14-day custodial sentence will be imposed.

     

    ARRESTS

     

    Also over the past week, persons found to be in contravention of the law were arrested, charged and are expected to be taken before a court of law shortly.

    Vincent ‘Horse-head’ Warner and Kimwell Matthew of Saddlers Village were arrested and charged with robbery. The offence, according to police, was committed on November 24, 2008.

     

    Possession of cannabis was the charge preferred against Brickiln Village, Nevis resident Chris Griffin.

     

    Mattingley resident Graeme Matthew was arrested and charged for a November 28, 2008 offence of indecent assault.

     

    Freddy Evangelista of Mc Knight and Clyde Murray of The Alley, Sandy Point were arrested and charged with one count of making use of threatening language. The incidents are unrelated.

     

    House breaking and larceny was the offence for which Vernon Parris of The Alley, Sandy Point, was arrested and charged.

     

    Eugene Browne of St. Paul’s Village and Everton Hendricks of St. Pauls were charged with one count of larceny. The incidents leading to their arrests are unrelated.

     

    Chris Warner of Farm site, Sandy Point was arrested and charged for wounding. Police say the incident transpired on December 6 and his arrest took place a couple of days later.
