BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A young Kittitian batsman from the Cayon area has been dominating opponents in a cricket league played in North Yorkshire, in England.
Tashmail Mills is in his third spell in England and for this season he has been the leading run scorer for his Bilton in Ainsty Club. He is also one of the leading run scorers in the Wetherby League.
In a brief interview with SKNVibes, Mills stated that after 17 games his team is currently positioned sixth amongst the 12 participating clubs, with him scoring over 700 runs at an average of just over 40 runs per innings with one century.
“Me personally, I'm just over 700 runs with one ton and a high score of 134.”
Mills however added he is not satisfied with the runs he has so far scored and is looking to improve on that in the remaining four games.
“I been batting at number three all season. I'm playing in a team that really count on me for runs. I Felt like I should have more 100s for sure, been getting out in the 80s a few times. I have four games left and I am looking to finish with an average over 50 with at least two more tons.”
In addition to the runs Mills also has bagged 15 wickets.
He also stated that his performance has not been good enough for him to earn a call up for a county team in that country.
“With my performances, no, I won’t make it yet. I'll have to be much more consistent with runs to reach that level for sure.”
The 22-year-old is also looking forward to returning home later this year and representing St. Kitts.
Mills first played for the St. Kitts National team in 2011 in the Nagico One Day Tournament and is hoping to do so once again this year when the competition gets underway.
He also represented the Leeward Islands Under-19 team in 2009.
Mills was also nominated to attend the West Indies Cricket Board's Sagicor High Performance Centre but was unsuccessful in gaining entry.
