Really?

                                                                          

I hate to hear people with disabilities being referred to as special, I really do!!

 

For; to be quite honest if we are so special then how come we are always last in everything. How come we have to fight so hard to be viewed as equals, how come we continue to be the least educated or the least represented in the work place. How come if a person become disabled in their productive years the chances of them ever going back to work are so low. How come we are last to gain access to buildings, information and the last to get legislation that protect our rights to equal citizenship. 

 

In other words if we are so special how come we have such a hard time enjoying the things that everyone else take for granted. The simple things; a stroll through the city, an education that can prepare a child with a disability for the real world. One in which independent living have great rewards and not one of dependence.

 

If we are that special shouldn’t all of us have an equal chance to be a doctor, a lawyer, school teacher, the fire marshal or the police chief?
