BRADES, Montserrat (August 28, 2013) – The Montserrat public as well as nationals living abroad are being invited to participate in a two-day consultation to develop the five-year Community Strategic Plan (2014-18) for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
According to Director of Regional Affairs Claude Hogan, who has been designated as Montserrat’s Change Driver for this consultation, a seven-member team will arrive on island next Thursday, September 5, 2013 for the consultation which will be held at the Montserrat Cultural Centre. Leading the team will be Dr Gwendoline Williams, a management training and development consultant in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Hogan explained that the consultation process is intended to identify the priorities of the CARICOM Members States which can and should be facilitated by regional collaboration.
Additionally, consultation planning documents note: “it is envisioned that the consultations will lead to a consensus on the strategic regional agenda based on agreed priorities to be address to 2018, as well as the implementation modalities and the roles and responsibilities of the different implementation agencies of the Community. There must also be a clear articulation of results and benefits to the key stakeholders and the mechanisms to measure and track the results.”
Stakeholders have been separated into five groups which will work on identifying Montserrat’s priority needs which can be supported by CARICOM during the two days of consultations.
On Friday, September 6, starting at 9am the sessions will be broadcast via live stream on www.zjb.gov.ms to enable friends and nationals of Montserrat overseas to participate. Hogan said those abroad are encouraged to watch online and also video chat via Skype to mnispirit. Comments and suggestions can also be sent via the ZJB website or by email to giu@gov.ms.
