BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 28th, 2013 - The Department of Sport will now host its second road race as a part of the National Independence celebratory activities in the form of a mini marathon, 5k walk and bike race on Saturday 7th September 2013. The first week of September is dubbed “National Health Sports and Fitness week”. The bike race will start in Molineux in the vicinity of the roundabout. The 10k will start in Cayon and the 5k race and the 5k walk will start in Keys. The races will start at 4:00 p.m. Each participant will receive a T-shirt .
The Ministry of education school buses will transport athletes to and from the event in Cayon and keys. One school bus will leave Basseterre at 2:30 p.m. from Walwyn’s gas station at the bottom of Victoria Road and travel west via Sandy Point and the other will leave 3:00 p.m and travel east via Keys.
Persons desirous of competing must note the following:
- Registration is free and can be done through the Department of Sport via telephone (869) 466-1450 / (869) 662-2008 or email sportsdept@gmail.com, attention Timothy Morton.
- Registration forms were given to all educational institutions and are readily available (high school ,primary schools, CFBC and AVEC)
- There is no age restriction.
- Registration forms are also available at the department of sports in Warner Park
- Registration can also be done on the day of the event
Prizes will be awarded for:
-The youngest and the oldest finisher
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the following categories:
- Males 12 years and under
- Males 13-16 years
- Males OPEN
Females 12 years and under
Females 13-16 years
Females OPEN
