Extreme Velocity win Independence Community Relay Run

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - EXTREME VELOCITY were the winners of the Independence Community Relay Run-A-Mile Festival held on Sunday (Sept. 1) as part of National Health Sports and Fitness Week to celebrate the Federation’s 30th Independence Anniversary.

     

    The race began at the Anglican Church in Sandy Point and ended at St. George’s Anglican Church in Basseterre with each participant running one mile of the 10-mile course.

    Extreme Velocity, coached by Donel Esdaille, won the race in a time of 1:02:20 and was awarded a cash prize of EC$1 000. Second place went to Fast Twitch Track Club in a time of 1:02:64 and the Stewart Joseph-coached Newton Ground Track Club ran in third at 1:06:54, while SL Horsford Pace Setters finished in fourth place with a time of 1:54:34.

    Fast Twitch Track Club was awarded EC$750 and Newton Ground Track Club copped the EC$500 prize.

    National Health Sports and Fitness Week will continue tomorrow (Sept. 4) with Body Balance and Fitness Sessions in Basseterre at the back of the Treasury or National Museum, the Sandy Point Hard Court and Frigate Bay Pasture.

    The National Fitness Week will end on Saturday (Sept. 7) with cycling, walking and running events. Cyclists will start from Molineux, runners from Cayon and walkers from Keys Village.
