BASSEETERRE, St. Kitts - AS part of its 30th Anniversary celebrations, the Sandy Point Primary School has upgraded its day-to-day attire by adding a Crest and tie, among other changes, to the dress code.

The school would be turning 30 on September 18 and, according to the Principal, Mrs. Dolphin, the changes to the uniforms were well accepted by the parents who have been asking for the children to don Crests for quite some time.

She said a committee was formed to create a number of events to celebrate the school's anniversary and among them was the decision to make some changes to the uniforms.

The Principal stated that a Crest was added to the garb which displays the school's name as well as its motto..."Building young minds for tomorrow".

The significance of this, she said, was for persons to know that the school's aim is to build young minds for tomorrow.

"That is a message we want to put out there when they see Sandy Point Primary School, because not everyone will come to the school to see it. So we decided to let our children wear the Crest so that when persons see it they would ask, 'What school is that?' and they will see that it is Sandy Point Primary School and our focus is building young minds for tomorrow."

A tie made from the same material as the girls' tunics was also added. For the female students in Grade Three and upwards, their tunics have been turned into skirts.

She did however indicate that the school's celebration would not coincide with the Independence's, but would instead begin after September and span over the remainder of the term.

She also indicated that on September 18 the school would be incorporating its 30-year Anniversary into usual Patriotic Programme.

While the children have already begun wearing their ties, the Crests would not officially be added until the beginning of the next school term in January 2014.
