BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TOURISTS will no longer be unaware of the myriad activities and excursions that exist in St. Kitts following yesterday’s (Dec. 17) launch of a Visitor Channel at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino.

The channel is a tourist information site that will be available as Channel 70 to all hotels and homes that receive the basic cable package.

Head of the Hotel and Tourism Association (HTA) Michael Head disclosed the background behind the initiative, stating that a survey conducted of departing tourists in March revealed that many of them believed that there was not enough to do in St. Kitts.

“We know that’s not true, especially if you’re only staying five or six days. The channel is designed for the tourist and also for local businesses to broadcast their products to the tourists and to the general public in St. Kitts as well,” he said.

He also said that the response from the corporate community had been overwhelming and the hour-long programme currently airing on the channel would be updated every two to three months.

Head also announced intentions to extend the channel to Nevis, although no plans are currently in the pipeline to extend it to the rest of the region or to international broadcasts.~~Adz:Right~~

Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas expressed his pleasure at the Visitor Channel, calling it a tremendous opportunity for the advancement of the Kittitian people.

“I think this emphasises again that the government is committed to making tourism the main engine of growth and development for St. Kitts and Nevis. It brings opportunities to the stakeholders in terms of those who are selling their services, those who are engaged in the restaurants, those who are engaged in the tour businesses, those who are engaged in crafts and vending, et cetera,” he said.

“I believe our visitors, after this, will no longer be able to say there is not enough to do, and not enough places to go,” the prime Minister added.
