Launch of Annual Children’s Home Walk/Run Event Lifts Spirits

Mr.Tishon Thomas
Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 5th 2013 – The St. Christopher Children’s Home (SCCH) announces its Annual Family Walk/Run scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2013. To launch the fundraising efforts leading to the walk/run, the SCCH hosted a reception in August to show their appreciation to past supporters, and to encourage new sponsorship for the 2013 event.

The reception, titled Lifting Spirits, provided opportunity for organizers of the SCC Home Walk/Run to network with sponsors and community leaders to discuss the key partnerships that would support the success of the event. More than fifty past and potential donors representing individuals and large corporations attended the event held at the St. Kitts Marriott Golf Course Club House.

“Our title, Lifting Spirits, is fitting for tonight’s activities,” said Sebastian Mottram, chairperson of the St. Christopher Children’s Home and Service League.  “Each of the sponsors in attendance have lifted the spirits of numerous children in St. Kitts through their support of the Home, tonight we hope to lift their spirits by sharing our appreciation and explaining how their support has provided benefit to these children.”

Organizers of the 2013 event have set a goal of raising EC $250,000, to support the St. Christopher Children’s Home, by engaging sponsors earlier in the activity and providing additional benefits to sponsors. Last year’s event raised more than EC $200,000 thanks to the support of local, regional and international sponsors, as well as, hundreds of participants. The funds were used to supplement the day-to-day operating costs, as well as reinforce the SCC Home’s roof and facilities.

Providing testament to the impact the SCC Home has provided to its residents, Mr.Tishon Thomas, Systems Manager at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, and past resident of the facility spoke briefly. “I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the St. Christopher Children’s Home,” said Thomas. “The friendships and the family I gained will forever be a part of my life. I made connections that have supported me by providing references and even encouraging me to extend my career goals. The Home provided me opportunity, one I would not have otherwise had. For all of you that are sponsors, thank you for believing in the Children’s Home and for believing in those of us who have lived there.”

Highlighting the event, was the announcement by Digicel St. Kitts and Nevis Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Johnny Ingle, of the company’s commitment to be the exclusive telecoms sponsor with a Platinum Sponsorship of EC $10,000; and in addition, to provide those who purchase their Walk/Run tickets in advance, at the Digicel location in the Circus, with an EC$10 Top Up.

“Digicel is pleased to come on board as both the first platinum sponsor and exclusive telecoms sponsor of this year’s Walk/Run,” said Ingle. “Digicel believes in making a social impact in the communities we are a part of. The continuing efforts of the organizing committee, tonight’s event and the comments by Mr. Thomas highlight the transformation the Children’s Home makes in these young people’s lives. I challenge everyone here tonight to join me in this important cause.”

Sponsorship levels range from EC $1,000- $10,000 with recognition matching the level. If you or your affiliated organization is interested in becoming a sponsor, contact Margaret Stevens, Director of the St. Christopher Children’s Home at 869-465-4007, or 766-4007or via email address skchildrenhome423@yahoo.com.

Those who purchase tickets in advance will be entered to win sponsor prizes on the day of the event. Tickets will also be available on the day of the event.
