BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CONTESTANTS from around the globe, including the Miss World St. Kitts-Nevis representative, 22-year-old Trevicia Adams, have begun arriving in Indonesia, the host country for the 63rd annual Miss World Pageant.
The Pageant’s finale is slated to take place on Saturday (Sept. 28) at Sentul International Convention Center on the outskirts of Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta.
Leading up to the actual pageant, this month the contestants will be engaged in over five pre-pageant competitions such as Talent Competition, Beach Fashion Award, Top Model, Sports and Fitness and Beauty with a Purpose.
Some 131 contestants are expected to vie for the prestigious title, including representatives from other Caribbean countries like Jamaica, Dominica, Guyana, Guadeloupe, Dominican Republic, Barbados and the Bahamas as well as bigger countries such as Ethiopia, Spain, Turkey, France, China, Panama and host country Indonesia.
In a previous interview with SKNVibes, Adams, affectionately known as ‘Barbie’, highlighted how honoured and excited she felt about being the chosen national beauty queen ambassador.
“First, let me say I am honoured and quite excited to be chosen to represent the Federation in the Miss World 2013. Any young lady who loves pageantry as much as I do has only dreamt of such a moment, and I am quite ecstatic that I was afforded the opportunity to be a part of my Federation’s history.”
Adams shared that she is a longstanding fan of the Miss World Pageant.
“I have been a fan of Miss World and Miss Universe since a very tender age. Pageants such as this and the Miss Universe have motivated me to believe in myself and that anything is possible…”
In May, Adams placed Fourth Runner-up in the Miss Caribbean World Pageant held in Tortola, BVI. She was crowned Miss Caribbean Culture Queen 2012 in the Culturama Festival in Nevis and in 2011 placed First Runner-up in the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Queen Pageant.
The reigning Miss World is Wenxia Yu of China.
