BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Christmas came early for the children at the Children’s Home when the Royal Bank of Canada performed a touching act of good corporate citizenship, donating a freezer, small appliances and a range of gifts for the institution’s staff and young wards.

The ceremony was held on December 17 at the Home’s Cardin Avenue location and according to the Country Manager for RBC Frances-Anne Satney, the gesture symbolised RBC’s commitment to social and community development and also served to strengthen the existing relationship between the two entities.

After distributing the many gift baskets, turkey, ham, cake and Christmas presents, Satney said the freezer and small appliances would be very useful in ensuring a comfortable life for the children.

She reassured the community and the Home in particular that the bank has a vested interest in giving back to the community, an act she says “we are more than committed to maintain”.

“We are extremely pleased for the opportunity to make these presentations. This is something that we did last year and we want it to continue as we try to think about what we can do to make sure that we maintain our support and contributions to the children at the Home.

“We spoke to the Director and Home mother and discussed the major needs for the institution. I must state though that this contribution is not just from RBC but it is from the employees of the bank as well.

There was a need in the community; RBC recognized it and we sought to address it. That’s what we are all about.”

In addressing the children at the Home, Satney said, “During this time of Christmas, a time marked by giving and sharing, we made sure that we did not forget you because I know children look forward to toys.”

She also encouraged the wider community to donate of themselves as “whatever you have, it may not even be money, but your time, smile, hug, kind word or deed can go a long way and can change somebody’s life”.   ~~Adz:Left~~

Director of the Children’s Home Robert Hull thanked the bank’s employees and indicated that RBC has had a very close relationship with the Home over the last two years. He said the gift was very timely as the Home’s freezer had recently stopped working.

Hull said, “This has been the second year that the bank has chosen to share with us. It’s a time of giving; it’s a time when love and joy are spread throughout. I believe that the children will be very happy. The bank management and staff have really kept their word on the matter. This afternoon, the promises have come true and RBC has come to our rescue.”

Following the presentation, several staff of RBC spent time socializing with the children and vowed their continued commitment in sharing the spirit of Christmas with the less fortunate children of the nation.
